Bombers watched another episode of Next Gen Season 1. We're going to talk about it. I am your co host, Phil Rizzo, joined by my other co host, Brian Parks. What's going on, Bomber?
[00:00:57] Speaker B: Well, I gotta tell you, you know, our episode today is too short a season and I know for some of the fans listening to this thing, it's been too long a binge because I'm taking my sweet ass time getting through this thing. But here we are, we're back with another episode and it's been a lot of fun here.
[00:01:10] Speaker A: Damn it, you ruined my.
So I predicted to Luke that one of the jokes that you would sneak in there.
Did you know this? No.
[00:01:18] Speaker B: This is hilarious.
[00:01:19] Speaker A: One of the jokes I knew you would sneak in there was. It should have been called too long an episode is what I think. I was thinking maybe you could say
[00:01:25] Speaker B: that that was on the radar, but
[00:01:27] Speaker A: it didn't seem like you. You use it for this. That's good, that's good. I don't know if you like this episode. If you didn't like it, we'll get into it.
[00:01:33] Speaker B: A joke. A joke I did write down was too short a season. Sounds like the title of every Mets year. But
[00:01:42] Speaker A: they are so bad, man. They scored 12 runs the other night and still lost. It's unbelievable.
[00:01:47] Speaker B: Oh my God, they lost 16 to
[00:01:48] Speaker A: 12 the other night. I mean, kid me, they're falling over each other in the field. You can't make this up. It's garbage.
[00:01:55] Speaker B: That's insane.
[00:01:57] Speaker A: Terrible. But yeah. No, listen. So Bomber's back with another. With another trick. He watched this episode a few days ago. Maybe. Maybe almost a week ago.
[00:02:05] Speaker B: No, there was only a couple days ago. I can't remember now actually. But within a week. Definitely within a week.

You're, you're, you're coming up on the end of your first season of Live Action Trek. How you feel, how's, how's the journey going so far?
[00:02:41] Speaker B: It's going good. You know, it's, it, it's. I gotta tell you, it's one of those things where it's like, you know, you're, I'm trying to think how to describe it. Where I will say what makes it interesting is, you know, when you think about shows like regular shows, like, you know, like sitcoms or. I don't know how to describe, like, as you know, I've mentioned on here a lot of times, I'm a big, or at least I grew up being a big Dukes of Hazard fan or whatever, but, you know, like Seinfeld, Cheers, Frasier, any show you want to think of, you know, for the most part, they're, they're, they're all. Are unique and different, but a lot of them are in their own world of play. I'm trying to get the right way to say this without sounding a absolute here, but, you know, the Star Trek thing here, Next Generation, it's almost like you never know what the hell's gonna get thrown at you when you watch these episodes. Like, you know, you know, they.
I'm trying to think of something like we had that one episode with the snake men and the dog people, whatever the hell that was.
[00:03:31] Speaker A: You are not ready for that.
[00:03:32] Speaker B: You get the hologram you have. You could do anything you want with that. And this one holodeck. Yeah. You know, then you have the cute character who's a little bit, you know, bizarre.
I don't know, you know, and, you know, different sicknesses hitting these people and it's, it's you never. I like it because I don't know what the hell I'm gonna get into in the next episode. And this one here is another one, a unique kind of a story here. So, you know, it makes it kind of interesting.
[00:04:00] Speaker A: It's an interesting take. Yeah. Like, you know, I guess we've watched so much Sci Fi and Trek in our lives, us being Trekkies, that, like, you kind of take that for granted that, you know, the uniqueness of these storylines, like, you know, we just kind of, oh, yeah, what's a big deal? They just went to a planet and they try to settle a conflict and it's like, yeah, but, you know, this, the setting is so sort of fantastic to begin with. And then, you know, you have these plots that you could really go on it. Like, yeah, you can't time travel on Frasier.
[00:04:25] Speaker B: Right.
[00:04:26] Speaker A: So I hear what you're saying. You know what I mean? Like, you can't. Right. You know, you're not gonna. You're not gonna really be punched in the gut watching, watching, you know, Seinfeld, you know, nothing against those shows. I love them. But I hear what you're saying. It's. It's a different sort of. It's different. Different kind of TV to what you're used to watching. So I guess that's. That's unique.
[00:04:43] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, I didn't really watch a lot of sci fi television. I mean, you know, you know, outside of like, you know, the movies and stuff of Star wars and I mean, you did introduce it to Battlestar Galactica. I did like that. That was interesting. You know, and the same thing. There was kind of a unique storyline because again, you don't really know what the hell's gonna be thrown at you. I don't know how to describe it. It's a very. It makes it. I. I just think it's very, very interesting. Like, even like something like the Sopranos, you know, it's basically, you know, one guy's gonna piss off another guy and someone's gonna get bumped off. And, you know, the general idea where we're gonna live there.
[00:05:17] Speaker A: Right.
[00:05:18] Speaker B: But here it's like, you know, like I said, they go into a planet where if you commit one crime, even if you jaywalk, you're gonna. You. The penalty's death. Like, that's a fascinating thing. Then the next episode, that's completely gone, and we're off. And this guy's getting older and he starts out old. He goes young. Like, what are we doing here? You know, you never know what the hell you're gonna get in through there.
[00:05:34] Speaker A: That's true. I love it. I love the perspective. Great.
Yeah. So let's. Let's get into it. So, folks, this episode is called Too Short a Season. As you probably know from the title of this podcast.
Let's talk about it. The Enterprise transports an elderly Starfleet Admiral to negotiate a hostage crisis. When the Admiral takes a de. Aging drug, he endangers both his life and the mission. That is a great synopsis.
Succinct, to the point. Love it.
Good job there, whoever wrote that. Yeah, so we got Too Short a Season. So, yeah, again, without, you know, spoiling whether you generally liked it or didn't like it. What were your overall impressions of the episode?
[00:06:15] Speaker B: That was too short a synopsis, by the way. You know, we just keep going. Keep going with this all day here.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: I don't know. I think it was good.
[00:06:20] Speaker B: I think it was good. No, it was. It was totally fine. Yes. No, you know, I felt like it was very interesting overall, but, you know, again, I don't know.
I'm sure I remember now, through the episode now, even though I did just watch it recently.
[00:06:37] Speaker A: That's all right. We'll run through this, and we'll run through the plot.
Talk about the beast.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: Was there any kind of B story here? Mostly this was what we were worried about. Was this guy, right?
[00:06:45] Speaker A: Yeah. No, No B story from what I remember.
[00:06:47] Speaker B: Yeah, right.
[00:06:48] Speaker A: No, it's just. Just the Admiral and his. And his. Him. Him and his wife coming on the board and, you know, his deal
[00:06:55] Speaker B: and, you know. And it's funny, the one after that played Karn Carnis. Am I saying that guy's right?
[00:07:01] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Carnis or Carnassus. Yeah, yeah, something like that.
[00:07:04] Speaker B: He. I remember him from the. I know he was on the old. Remember the old Spider Man TV movie that Nicholas Hammond was. Was on.
[00:07:11] Speaker A: Oh, no, I know. I thought you're gonna say something else. Go ahead.
[00:07:14] Speaker B: No good. I. I recognize him. Something else, but that's the first thing I thought. What else you got from. From him?
[00:07:18] Speaker A: Carness. Was it Carness?
[00:07:20] Speaker B: Conice.
[00:07:21] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah, I. I think. Wasn't he into James Bond? Well, first of all, he's. He was the Russian prime Minister in Rocky 4, first of all.
[00:07:28] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:07:28] Speaker A: So he was. He was the guy up in the darkness, up in the booth who, like, stood up when Drago got cut, you know? Totally.
[00:07:34] Speaker B: I can't believe I didn't think of that.
[00:07:35] Speaker A: I think he was in a Bond. Which is interesting because you have an episode coming up in a couple.
Couple slots called Home Soil in which another Bond actor's in there. Like, so I think he was. I feel like he was like a kgb. The head of the KGB or something. I don't know. Maybe I'm talking.
[00:07:53] Speaker B: Was it a Brosnan one or was it a.
[00:07:55] Speaker A: No, old school. I want to say Roger Moore. I want to say.
[00:07:58] Speaker B: Okay, okay.
[00:07:58] Speaker A: Because this other guy in Home Soil.
[00:08:00] Speaker B: Oh, oh, maybe it was Octopussy or something.
[00:08:03] Speaker A: Maybe I've seen that one a million times. Maybe it was Octopussy. And I'm thinking, like, he wasn't like the villain or anything, but he was like. You know, when they're. Right before he goes to Q to get his gadgets. He's talking to M.
And, you know, I feel like he was in one of those meetings or something. Yeah, okay, I'll, you know, I'll double check that. But, but, you know, he's definitely for something more than just Rocky four. So you. So you're dead. Right.
[00:08:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:26] Speaker A: But, yeah, he was interesting. You know, I thought he was a little over the top, but I guess I kind of worked at the time, you know.
[00:08:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:36] Speaker A: Yeah. So, yes, let's talk about it. So the Admiral and his wife come on board the ship, you know, and the Admiral, you know, elderly man, he makes it clear to Picard right away that he is in charge of the mission. Picard, you know, runs the ship and he's in charge of the mission.
So they come on board this elderly couple. They're, you know, respect for the Admiral, blah, blah, blah. And I mean, that's really. Yeah, like, there's no B stories. That's pretty much how the, how the episode starts.
Let me ask you this. Where is your first note? Is it. Is it off the bat or should I keep going until you get to your first note?
[00:09:09] Speaker B: Well, I'll throw a few of them at you here. I mean, just off the top was the.
Well, first thing I was going to say was. I'm sure you could think of other, you know, examples of this, but I immediately. Well, I. I think I'll save this for later on, actually.
Well, the first note I actually wrote down was that the old dude. The old dude. Tell me it doesn't look like Biff from, like, Back to the Future, too,
[00:09:31] Speaker A: with some of that bad makeup, like, he does. He does look like Biff. You're so right.
I should, I shouldn't say bad makeup. I feel like it was probably great makeup for 1987.
[00:09:39] Speaker B: No doubt.
[00:09:40] Speaker A: TV. 1988, I guess, at this point. TV. But, but yeah, no, he. I mean, you. You could tell that it was. He was purposefully in makeup. They didn't just. They just get an older.
[00:09:50] Speaker B: Right, right.
[00:09:51] Speaker A: I'm sorry. They didn't just get an old guy. So you knew something was going to happen. You know, like there was a reason why they would take someone young and put in old makeup. You know, otherwise they would just cast an old admiral, which they've done before.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:10:02] Speaker A: So, yeah. So. And you, right off the bat, so that actor.
And we'll talk about him, you know, more as we go along, of course, because his name is Clayton Rohner. So he is. I know him very well from A movie from the 80s called Just One of the Guys. Do you ever see that movie?
[00:10:18] Speaker B: Hilarious. That was on HBO all the time, ironically enough. I never saw the whole thing all the way through, but it was one of those I would catch pieces of, and I'm like, what the hell is this movie? And I was like, you know, that kind of would bounce out.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: So you might have been a little young. Like, you might not have been allowed to watch. I don't know how strict your parents were, but we kind of stuck that one. You know, it's funny. Parents in the 80s, like, they were strict, but, like, one pair of boobies didn't turn them off. Like, they were like, yeah, it's fine. It was just pair of boobies, you know, I'm pretty sure that's all it was. When she. At the end, she opens her. Her chest, you know, so basically, it's like a. It's basically a. What was that Amanda Bynes movie where she did the exact same thing where she poses as a guy to get on the team?
[00:10:58] Speaker B: Oh, the soccer thing, Right, Exactly. Yeah.
[00:11:02] Speaker A: It's not. She's all that. It's like, I don't remember. But, yeah, the movie. Just like that. I know, because Drew had the freaking dvd. My brother loved. Loved the.
[00:11:09] Speaker B: Allison. Allison loved that movie. So she showed it to me, and I can't remember the name of the damn thing.
[00:11:13] Speaker A: I'll think of it by the end of the podcast. Anyway, yeah, so, folks, if you don't know, just one of the guys movie where, you know, this. This woman, she in high school, she wants to get on the Men's Journal, she wants to be a journalist and something like that. I don't know. And. And then she wraps her chest and she becomes a guy and blah, blah, blah.
Actually, not just Clayton Rona, but Cherilyn Finn, you know, that actress, she was in the. She was in that movie too.
[00:11:37] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: Oh, and of course. Of course, the great. You know, William Zabka, Cobra Kai, he. That was one of his three main 80s douchebag roles. He was the.
[00:11:48] Speaker B: Oh, really? He was in that.
[00:11:49] Speaker A: He did the trilogy. Yeah, he was the bad guy in that. He was the bad guy, obviously, in Karate Kid, but he was also the bad guy in Back to School. Back to School, exactly.
[00:11:56] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:11:57] Speaker A: So there you go. So that. That was his. That was the big trilogy for him. Anyway, I know Clayton Rohner, the actor who plays the Admiral. He was in that. I know him from that I know him from. He was in a. A very bad X Files Episode called the Rain King.
[00:12:11] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:12:11] Speaker A: But either way, because of just one of the guys, I've always had a soft spot for him. This actor I liked when he popped up on Next Gen, I was like, oh, it's a dude from just one of the guys. Um, yeah, so that was cool. And so that's where I know that actor from. I don't know if anybody else knows him, but you know, so I thought he did, he did a good job in this episode.
[00:12:28] Speaker B: I thought he was good in this. No doubt. And it was funny. Speaking of him, now that you mentioned, I'll bring up, I was gonna say before was that I'm sure you have other examples of this, but talking about the old to young thing, of course I.
First thing I initially thought of him was there's an old couple of. Actually they did it in two different episodes that they kind of did the same Stooges, but. The Stooges. Yeah, they did an episode with Shemp called All Gummed up. And this old guy comes in, he wants to be young. So they. Someh. They accidentally concoct this serum and he takes it and he, he, he turns young or whatever it is and. And then his wife takes it and she's young and beautiful, whatever. And then I feel, I'm trying to remember what happens at some point in the episode that he, the guy, old guy eventually turns into a gorilla. Which is bizarre, but you know, it's a Stooges. What do we expect? But I'm sure other examples kind of
[00:13:12] Speaker A: like the Next Gen episode Genesis.
[00:13:14] Speaker B: Oh really?
[00:13:15] Speaker A: Yeah, you'll get there. That, that's hilarious. You said that. I'll be talking about that on the next pod. That's funny.
[00:13:19] Speaker B: Well, I have to get there, but I. Yes, but I'm sure there's a lot of other examples of something like this where the.
[00:13:23] Speaker A: Yeah, I can think like Benjamin Button is one.
[00:13:25] Speaker B: Well, of course. Yeah. I wish I had my notes too.
[00:13:28] Speaker A: There was a Tales from the Crypt episode with William Hickey. You know that old actor.
[00:13:32] Speaker B: I know the name. If I saw his face, I'm sure I would know where he is.
[00:13:35] Speaker A: Yeah, I think it was. I want to say Schwarzenegger was either in this episode or he directed it. It was one of the first second season episodes. This guy makes a wish, he wants to be young again and you know, he ends up being put into the body of Rick Rossovich. The guy who played Slider in Top Gun? Yeah, yeah, he was on er. He's a good looking dude, you know, so he was all he was all fit. So, yes, that was a fun episode. So I. I could think of that too. But yeah, so obviously, yeah, it's been done before, but an interesting way to tell a story. So he takes this, you know, so we don't know this right off the bat, but, you know, after they come on board, he takes this de aging drug, blah, blah, blah, and he starts being a little more spry and his wife is surprised, and he, you know, he's in this 24th century wheelchair and he gets up and walks on the bridge and everyone's freaking out. You know, what did you.
What did you. And again, not to toot this guy's horn too much, but I thought he played, you know, bad makeup aside, I thought he played an old. An elderly man really well. I portrayed that pretty good. Did you know that he was a younger actor underneath all the makeup?
[00:14:36] Speaker B: I did not.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: Awesome. Okay.
[00:14:38] Speaker B: It took. It took me time to catch on to that idea. And then, to be honest, I couldn't tell.
It took me a while to catch on to it, to be honest. But I was gonna say it's funny. And just to have a little plug for. We also have the other podcast there, Men of a Certain Five. I'm already bringing up, because we just did do the conversation about our favorite directors and you mentioned Fincher on there and who did Benjamin Button.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: That's right. There you go. Little Fincher.
[00:15:04] Speaker B: And that was a two hour conversation that probably could have went four if we really wanted to. There.

[00:15:23] Speaker B: No, my point was gonna say, like you said with the Benjamin Button thing was like, I. I brought it up just because I was thinking.
I'm not sure. What was interesting was that you knew the guy was up to something. And in fact, I had this in one of my notes where it was funny because he's like, you know, it reminds me, the episode there with the 10110, whatever.
[00:15:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:15:39] Speaker B: What were those guys? What were those guys called by our.
[00:15:41] Speaker A: Binars.
[00:15:42] Speaker B: Yep, Binars. You knew right away in the beginning that they were like, oh, we're gonna do this, or whatever it is. You could tell right away that they were up to no good. They were up to something.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:15:51] Speaker B: And the same Kind of thing happens here where, you know, he says, oh, you know, you Picard, you're start the ship. I'm just in charge of this mission. And at one point he kind of makes a little bit of an eye. He does something with his shift of his eyes or something where it kind of made, you, made the audience give the audience the idea that he's up to something. We're not sure what it is. And, but my, in my initial idea was he's telling Picard like, yeah, yeah, it's fine, you know, you're in control. But in my mind, is this guy going to take over the ship now? You know, the last thing I was thinking of was that he's going to start getting younger, you know what I'm saying? So, sure took me a while to, to get there, but so, so that's why I say, like, I, I, it took I don't know how many scenes in before the light bulb finally went on. I know I'm definitely slower than a lot of other people. I was, oh, he's, he's young. It's the same guy.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: I don't think anybody knew, like, I mean, until they, until they had that first makeup change, I don't think anybody knew exactly what was going on. Like, maybe they just thought he would be more, like I said, spry or just more like, you know, more alert. Like, like he took the equivalent of steroids for this mission, you know?
Yeah, look, by the way, when they said how old he was, I was expecting them to say like, he's 101.
[00:16:59] Speaker B: How old did they say he was? 85. Yeah, yeah, I agree with you there. Especially knowing the Star Trek world, I was thinking to myself, first of all, I was like, is he not human? Is he like an alien? Is there something else going on here? I was actually expecting to be older than 100. I was going to say like 150, maybe even 200. I don't know. I was trying to think of something insane.
[00:17:17] Speaker A: Humans live that long in the 24th century. You know, Bones was on the pilot episode of Next Gen, I remember as, and he was like, I forget what the exact number, but data said 130something years old, like was Bones, you know, I mean, he was walking just as more than this guy was, you know what I mean? So, yeah, and he's only 85. So I, you know, I, I don't know why the, I mean, obviously everyone ages differently and I'm not going to apologize for Star Trek as my friends laugh at that. But yeah, you Know, I, I, I'm surprised they were so they weren't more consistent with what they established in the pilot episode and what they did here anyway. Because, you know, it's funny, you see these memes, and it's like, you know, you look at the Golden Girls and they tell you the age that they were on the show.
[00:17:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:59] Speaker A: And they look like they're 106, but they're really like, like 62. You know what I mean? It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, I don't know if that's about when you're young, you see everyone as being much old looking much older than they are, or we're just aging better as a species, which I think we might be.
[00:18:12] Speaker B: So I think there's something to that because it's funny, I always had this conversation with my brother, just talking about parents, at least in my opinion. Well, again, who knows? When you're a kid, I'm talking about when I saw like, a mom and dad. They looked to me like a mom and dad. But like, now our age, like, I feel like I'm with, like, my dad, you know, or like, you know, I look like I see parents. They look so young in some ways, you know, where it's like when I was a kid, they were all like, you know, they look like older. I don't know if I'm sounding fucking insane here, but you know what I'm saying?
[00:18:39] Speaker A: So true. I mean, think about your teachers. Like, they look like they were 88 total teachers. You know what I mean? And like, they were probably like 43, you know what I mean? It's, it's crazy. Anyway, so, yeah, he was supposed to be 85, which I thought was kind of shocking, but, and, and now I,
[00:18:53] Speaker B: I know you want to go all along the episode here, I'm just trying
[00:18:55] Speaker A: to catch, I want to hear the notes.
[00:18:57] Speaker B: I, I have con. Connor says to the old guy, you know, time has not been kind.
I was totally waiting for the old guy to go.
You, you know, I was waiting for that. I was waiting for that to just chime in there, you know.
[00:19:10] Speaker A: Right, right, right, right.
[00:19:13] Speaker B: And it was funny.
The next note I have now, I don't know if I'm ahead of where we were there, but the doctor says she's ready to see Jameson and he's confused as to why he needs to see the doctor.
I was waiting for Picard to go, have you looked in a mirror, pal?
Yeah.
[00:19:30] Speaker A: You are dead right now. Like, you're struggling to stay alive.
[00:19:33] Speaker B: Exactly. And that was the question I was going to be was, does he realize, I mean he knows he's old, but does he realize he looks the way like he looks as old as he looks like? I couldn't tell. I was like, you know, what is the deal with this guy?
[00:19:42] Speaker A: Yeah, I guess, you know who again, it's weird. They're playing with the age there in a weird way. So I, I, I just swallow it and say, hey, move on. So yeah, I think, yeah, I think he knows how old he is.
And I like the fact, I like that. His motivations to be younger weren't like he wasn't looking for the fountain of youth. He just needed to write the wrong that we hear about at the end of the episode. I mean, he was just trying to make things right. And the only way to do that was to be at full strength to confront this, his old nemesis. I think it's an interesting way to, you know, he's not just a vain admiral, he up for sure. But now he's trying to make it right. And this is the only way that his sort of warped mind thinks that he can do that. I think it's interesting.
[00:20:20] Speaker B: Well, it's funny like he says that until he walks by a couple of girls in some bathing suits or something goes, actually you know what, maybe I'll stay younger for this.
[00:20:27] Speaker A: So you know, Annie, take five. Well, yeah, I'm only banging these people.
[00:20:31] Speaker B: Well actually it's funny, I looked down a little bit later my actually did have written down Picard says The guy is 85 years old. He misspoke. He's actually 185 years old. Fucking kidding me. I mean, so, yeah, what are we doing there?
[00:20:43] Speaker A: The makeup is insane. Like it really is Next thing, one
[00:20:47] Speaker B: of the things I have here too is that the old guys, when the wheelchair opens up, right. That was kind of the first of all. The wheelchair itself was cool. The way that that thing opened up like that was.
[00:20:56] Speaker A: Yeah, I thought so. Right.
[00:20:58] Speaker B: And of course I was thinking how great would be if you just have like pajamas on or shorts on underneath there. Like that would be hilarious.
[00:21:02] Speaker A: You know, the, the red polka dot on, you know, boxers, you know.
[00:21:10] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, I, I, I don't know if again, I don't know if that was a subtle clue there because, because also I forget now, when did he start to actually walk a little bit? Right. Was that like after the first treatment from the doctor or something? I'm trying to remember when he started to like, he, I feel like he was in his Room. And he starts to walk a little bit, and you're like, okay, maybe he's not.
[00:21:30] Speaker A: Yeah. The wife was like, oh, my God, you got a lot of energy today. You know, like, she was, like, surprised.
He was like, you know, up and about.
Yeah. So I think he took. He took the. If I remember correctly, he took it before the show started. Right. He took it before he came on the Enterprise.
[00:21:44] Speaker B: Right, yes. Which we were not aware of, but yes. Yeah.
[00:21:46] Speaker A: Right, right. Okay. Yeah. So. So he was just waiting for the effects to kick in and they started to slowly.
You know, we should say for anyone not following the plot that the whole reason he's doing this is because this planet. I want to say Mordan, this guy who running it, the Rocky 4 guy, he's taken some hostages, I guess. Some Federation hostages, I guess. And, you know, the Admiral jumped on board. They're gonna go and try to negotiate the release of these hostages. We didn't mention that, but that's the main reason why they're going on this mission and the main reason why we think the Admiral is involved. But, you know, obviously we find out more later.
[00:22:23] Speaker B: And now, another thing I've written down here is Picard has a scene with Crusher, and he kind of disses her a little bit.
[00:22:30] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:31] Speaker B: He tries to make up for it. I. I wish I wrote down exactly what he says, but he's like.
I think she mentioned something. About what? Oh, something about the. The disease that he has is like. It's. It's. It's this thing. It's like, it's not curable.
[00:22:44] Speaker A: It doesn't get better.
[00:22:44] Speaker B: Yeah. And he was kind of like, you know, like. Yeah, I kind of. He made it seem like she was a little bit not, you know, you know, not. Not. Not wrong, but, like, you know, like, maybe you're a little delusional on the idea.
[00:22:56] Speaker A: I remember. I think I remember what you're talking about. And then he.
[00:22:59] Speaker B: And then he sees that she's upset, and he immediately moves back in to, like, kiss her ass again. To be like, you know, still. I hope you still want to bang me. I'm just. I'm trying to, you know, I mean, like.
[00:23:06] Speaker A: Like, don't burn the bridge.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: You know, I thought that was kind of a funny, you know, scene with him doing that kind of thing.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: He realized he was being a bit of a douche. Yeah. I remember there were two scenes with them where he was a little short with her. Like, one, I think, in the very beginning when the album comes on board, and then Two, when they were, like, either in sick bay at her, like, workstation, he was sort of standing over his shoulder and he was kind of giving her.
[00:23:29] Speaker B: Oh, God.
[00:23:30] Speaker A: Oh. And then he was. Yeah, you're right, because at the end. Right. I remember now because he was like.
He was like, you know, get out of doctor. And he went to our way. And he's like, as soon as you can, please. You know, he was, like, a little friendly about it.
[00:23:40] Speaker B: You know, something like that.
[00:23:41] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, something like that. Exactly. So, yeah, that's always an interesting dynamic.
[00:23:45] Speaker B: Now, now, like you were saying, too, now when we were talking about before, now, the guy eventually starts to walk a little bit, but now when he walks pretty decently, he's in the room and he is, at first, immediately he tells the wife, like, all right, let's. Let's. Let's get in the bedroom. Like, oh. Kind of, like joking around. That was hilarious. Let's do this. Yeah. I was waiting for her to go, you know, wow. You know, you look, like 20 years younger, but you still look like, you know, like, it wasn't like he was like, you know, he hadn't gone full young yet. You know what I mean?
[00:24:12] Speaker A: Right, right.
[00:24:13] Speaker B: Like, actually, in that scene, he looked to be about 101, I would say. You know what I'm saying?
[00:24:17] Speaker A: I know it's weird that they. And again. Again, they have one. They have. They have, you know, X amount of time to do these episodes. I. I'm not sure how they make up artists. It might have even gotten nominated for an Emmy. I don't even know. This show won a ton of technical Emmys.
[00:24:29] Speaker B: I mean, no, the makeup is awesome. I just think, like you said, I think they kind of get the numbers wrong.
[00:24:32] Speaker A: I know, exactly. I think I'm looking back on it, like, you know, with. With, you know, hindsight. But. Yeah. So you think they would have done, like, a. Like a couple more makeup changes? Like, they kind of, like. I don't know if you remember or not, they filmed his face in darkness a lot.
So, one, they probably didn't have to put the actor in makeup every time.
And two, because they wanted that to be the reveal, especially in the. In the conference room when he reveals that he's finally, like, you know, 33 or whatever. He was supposed to be at his youngest, you know, that was pretty box.
[00:24:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:25:00] Speaker A: I'm fitter than you, Picard. You know, like, he was just. He was all over him.
[00:25:04] Speaker B: And I did think that it was interesting. I did, like, you know, the idea that he had found this serum or whatever the medicine is called or whatever, you know, and that he actually had one for him and his wife, but he decided to take both of them was fucking hilarious.
[00:25:19] Speaker A: That was a well written scene actually. And like the way he said that line and her reaction was a really good piece of acting. I like that a lot.
She's like, I took both of them. She was just like, she was like, you know, not like over the top though. It was like, it was good. Like just like a pro clutching old lady would react. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, I thought it was well done, but you're right. And yeah, he took both bonkers.
[00:25:42] Speaker B: Which I also think that that scene plays into your idea of the, of it not being a vain thing where it's like, like he wasn't looking to do this in order to, you know, have make love to his wife when they're both young again. Like he was doing this really for the mission, really. You know, he wasn't really thinking about, you know, make. Helping his wife be younger or whatever. I don't know. You know what I mean?
[00:26:01] Speaker A: I think that's a really clever bit of writing there because it, it allows you to still sympathize with the, with the Admiral, you know, I mean, he's not just some vain jerk who's just looking to get young and, and you know, one up his rival. Like he's looking to make things right. And again, in his, you know, sort of deluded mind, he thinks is the only way to do it. But it does keep him just endearing enough to root for, I think.
[00:26:28] Speaker B: Yeah, I think that's part of the scene too. Like you said. That makes it great too, is. I agree, you, your initial reaction is, wow, what an. But you're right, you still are rooting for him because he's not. He didn't do it to screw her over. He did it to accomplish the mission and, you know, get his revenge kind of thing. I don't know how to say it, you know.
[00:26:50] Speaker A: Totally. And that's why that scene between him and Picard in the conference room is very important because, you know, not only does he say something like, you know, he tells him the story. So basically, if you don't remember the episode, folks, so it turns out that, you know, back in the day when he was, you know, I guess he was commanding a starship and this planet who's not affiliated with the Federation, wanted him to give him weapons to finish the job, to avenge Carnass. Carnass wanted to avenge his father's death and he wanted weapons from Starfleet, but to get the job over.
And Admiral Jameson's interpretation of the Prime Directive was to give both sides weapons.
So they would either. So it'd be like a. I guess he was thinking it'd be like a Cold War situation where, you know, mutual assured destruction, where neither side would do it because they would fear of, you know, being, you know, being annihilated. But it turns out 40 million people died.
So the scene in the conference room is good because he not only confesses that probably for the first time to anyone, his wife included, but Picard almost. Again, like we said, you know, he's still endearing a little because Picard sort of lets him off the hook a little bit. He says, kind of look, you may have given him the weapons, but they chose to do it for four decades.
[00:28:06] Speaker B: Exactly. Which was. Which was a cool line.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: But he didn't. He didn't take that. He said, but I still did it. So he was still repentant, which I think, again, is important for the protagonist of a particular episode. Like. Like, you know, that keeps the character, you know, somewhat morally righteous. And. And you can still, however, in, however, a small way get behind him.
[00:28:31] Speaker B: Right. Right. Now, tell me you didn't think about this, because I. You know, how great would it have been if by the time they got. They get the corn, as Jamus is an infant, you know, like, like, like he's in diapers and, you know, like, you're like, well, that didn't backfire a little bit there, you know.
[00:28:46] Speaker A: Well, he's sperm. So I don't think he's going to be negotiating anytime soon.
They would just know that.
[00:28:53] Speaker B: How about when the doctor goes, he, at one point, she's like, he isn't stabilizing. He may not have that life to live over. It would have been great if the wife was like, yes, screw you. You know, like,
[00:29:06] Speaker A: yeah. So where's 10 forward? Any. Any good guys single on here?
Any single guys in this over the age of 50 or whatever? She is 80, 100, who knows?
[00:29:17] Speaker B: Now, another thing that I thought was awesome was when they're gonna accompany him. I forget where they're. How they get to this part, but they're. They're basically. They get to the land or the. The place that they're going here, where Cornice is.
[00:29:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:29:32] Speaker B: And they're gonna beam down. Yeah, right.
This one part of the scene was absolutely hilarious. This is funny if you. I don't know if, you know, Picard is talking with Riker and then some of the people are up there getting ready to beam down. And Picard is softly. He's like, I have the right to accompany him.
Then he walks up on the beam and he just shouts, riker, you have command in the antipathy. I'm like, you're two feet away. What the fuck? What happened there? You know, did you pick up on it?
[00:29:58] Speaker A: I remember that it's so weird. He did not need to elevate his voice there. Like, you know, it's a closed room. He could just be like, riker, you're in charge of the Enterprise.
[00:30:05] Speaker B: Well, the only thing I was wondering there was, did he do that to kind of show Jameson that, you know, he's still the man in charge of his people? You know? You know what I'm saying?
I don't know if there was some kind of element to that, but otherwise,
[00:30:17] Speaker A: I was gonna say maybe because he's frustrated at what's going on, but you're right. Picard, he's more reserved, though. I think you're right. I think it is because he's trying to assert some sort of, you know, leadership over the situation. Not in, like, a desperate way, but in, like, I need to keep this guy in check. Otherwise, you know.
[00:30:34] Speaker B: Right.
[00:30:34] Speaker A: He could run rampant with the mission. So good call. Good call there.
I thought you were gonna say, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I thought as I was laughing at this when I watched it last time, I can't remember what it was when they get down to the tunnels, and the Admiral's like, you know, all right, I noticed, like, the back of my hand, it's like. And Data's like, well, this seems to be a dead end. Trust me, I know. And they walk away, and Data pulls Picard over. He's like, captain, the Admiral is definitely incorrect. Like, there's no question about it, you know? And they just let him go. Like, you let him keep walking. You know what I mean? I think Picard was like, we got to let this play out because he's got seniority, and what can I do? But Dana was like, this motherfucker is dead wrong, sir.
[00:31:16] Speaker B: Actually, now you made me think of how hilarious it would have been if it reminds me of Star Wars A New Hope. When Han and Chewie walk around that corner, there's, like, 100 storage troopers there. It would have been funny if.
If Jameson walks around a corner, there's a million bad guys right in front of me. He's still trying to put Data. No, I was telling it this is the right way to go, man. You know what I mean?
[00:31:33] Speaker A: Like, just be quiet. We got to go through all those troops
[00:31:38] Speaker B: now. Now I'm going to bring up kind of a Star Trek question here.
I thought, first of all, I did think the battle was a fun scene. I thought that was cool to get a little action in the mix, you know, for sure.
Now Data tells Picard that their phases are set to kill. I like this, is that for the audience? Because Picard is like, no shit.
You know, he kind of is like, yeah, I, I, you know, I've, I've, I've been doing this a long time, dad. He kind of says something like that, that. Now my question is, I'm, I'm, I'm guessing Data says that so that the audience is privy to the idea. But what I was going to ask was, do, does a Star Trek fan know by the color or by some indication that when a thing is set to blast or stunning, you know, to kill or stun, is that something you pick up on or you needed to be included in the information on that? Does that make any sense, Bob?
[00:32:28] Speaker A: Right, you make total sense. Let me stop you there for a second. This is, this is a great example of why I love having you on these pods, okay? Because. No, no, there's no joke coming. No, no, this is the exact type of question that, like, I wouldn't, Trek fans would never think to ask. Okay? Like, like that, that's a, that's a. Because I was thinking about this scene too and I, I remember that from the last time I watched it. That's a great question.
Because why not? It would be very possible, like, you know, if there's something established in Trek that, okay, we know it's on kill because of the color or the, you know, the sound or blah, blah, blah. So the, the answer is no, we did not know. So Data did say that for the audience, which was perfect. But I love that Picard, you know, it's sort of along the terms of like, you know, he's a military man, you know, first and foremost, right? He's technically in the military and he knows what phaser set to kill sound like just because super experienced and he's been in phaser fire so many times in his life that he knows, just like someone in modern day warfare would know the type of weapon based on the bullet going by its head. So, yeah, fucking great question.

[00:34:10] Speaker B: Yeah. And also, you know, they've already established Data is kind of an over explainer in a lot of ways, which pisses Picard off a lot of times. So it kind of fits the way their relationship is too, in a way.
[00:34:20] Speaker A: Yeah, you're right, he does have that kind of like, yes, Mr. Data, thank you, I've been in phaser fire before or whatever.
What is interesting is that an Android can't just target these guys and kill them instantly. That's that to me. I'm always sort of thrown off by that. Like Data should be able to point a phaser at the exact spot he wants to and you know, get that one part of his shoulder that's sticking out of the, you know, the, the COVID You know what I mean? Like he's an Android. He should be, technically, he should move, he, he should be able to move fast enough to take them all out before they can, blah, blah, blah. But it wouldn't make for great television if, you know, if they did use Data to his full potential. But I gotta, gotta be honest, that bothered me a little bit last time I watched the episode, so.

So even though you are a Star Trek apologist, things do kind of still bother you a little bit here.

You know what's cool about that scene?

You don't really put into words and quantify, but this has happened so many times, and it's one of the most fun things to watch in fiction, Right. Is when someone doesn't believe somebody else and they have to prove to them in a fantastic way that they are who they say they are. Right. Like, this has been in a million different things. Right. You can't watch.

[00:36:29] Speaker A: You can't watch, you know, Fringe or Trek or Star wars or any, you know, any show where it isn't like, prove you say you are. You know.

[00:36:37] Speaker A: Yeah, prove who you are who you say you are. You know what I mean? And then they have to think of some cool inside way that they could prove to them that they're. That they're, you know, who they say they are. That person. More often than we realize. But it's always fun to watch. I like that. And I like the idea that they were trying everything to convince this guy that he was who he said he was.

Trying to think of the right way to put this, it makes me. I agree with you for some reason. It is always fun to do.
But what's interesting is, like, I remember that episode with Data with his brother where, you know, he took Data's place and had to kind of like, you know, try to figure out what's going on with Data, you know?

[00:37:22] Speaker B: I think. I think that kind of thing is always a little bit more fun because, you know, you have a relationship with the character. Like, we know the person. Almost like they know the person. So it's like, oh, you know, I can't wait for them to figure out that it's not, you know.

[00:37:33] Speaker B: For something like. For something like this, we have no relationship with Jameson, you know.

[00:37:37] Speaker B: So it's a little bit of a different dynamic there. But it's still not. It's not any less fun to watch. It's just, you know, not as fun as the other one. That's all I would say. But it's still fun.

Show them the wallet from the 30s and they'll know that it's him. You know what I mean? But, like, you're right. We don't know Jameson. We didn't know he had a scar until he said it.

[00:38:09] Speaker B: I'm trying to think if they could have hinted it to you earlier in the episode, but then I think it would have been so obvious of why are they showing you this? You know what I mean?

Dr. Crusher was doing her exact. He could have been like, yeah, when she's doing her examination. Oh, yeah, I got that, you know,

[00:38:25] Speaker A: Not only that, it'd be a great.
It'd be a great twist too, because he could say he got it in some like, you know, firefight, but really when you find out he got it because of a. Of a evil sort of blood oath that he made with his mortal enemy, it would have been a little more impactful. That's interesting.

[00:38:42] Speaker A: Again, you can only cram so much in a 43, 40, 46 minutes. But, you know, we're nitpicking, but still not. That's a great point.

[00:38:52] Speaker B: Now this is also a little fun for the Next gen fans right here. Yeah, you know, you know damn well now I'm gonna read down, right? He would have been all over that, you know, that was coming and nobody would have protested.

[00:39:48] Speaker B: When they're on the bridge and the old guy walks down, he gets out of the wheelchair, he starts to walk down the ramp on the bridge and he almost falls. You remember that?

If he fell and he rolled down the ramp, right out the window of the bridge, sucking people out with him, this would have been the greatest show I've ever seen in my life. It would have been epic. I'm telling you right now. I could. I saw it happening in my head when he almost fell. I was like, oh, if he just would have actually fell, this would have been the best.
[00:40:21] Speaker A: You know, I knew it was going to be fucking cartoony. I knew it was going to be bonkers. But. So you. You wanted him to fall with such ferocity that he crashed through the view screen out into his open space. That's how hard it was going to roll. How. How awesome would that be? That be phenomenal.
You're right. That be the best thing that ever happened in. In fiction ever.

So he said something along the lines of, I'm ready to cooperate. The hostage will be released immediately. I'm ready to cooperate. That, to me, said, he's gonna release the hostages, but that's it. Like, are you telling me there's no, like, punishment?
I didn't get the impression there was. I know he's not Federation citizen, so there's not Federation law, technically, but.

[00:43:49] Speaker B: I'll tell you what. I, I think it left you with the idea that nothing was gonna happen, because I, I, I'm with you. I didn't even think of that, to be honest with you, because the way they kind of let it was kind of, to me, cut and dry. But you're right. Like, wait a second here. You know, you held these people hostage, threatened to kill them, whatever. I don't know. You know what I mean?
[00:44:03] Speaker A: I mean, at the very least, kidnapping, right? Yeah.
[00:44:07] Speaker B: Let alone the fact that his men attacked their men, you know, Although they did come on his ship, I guess, or whatever.
[00:44:11] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. They weren't intruding, but I hear you. I don't know. I was curious if you, if you thought that or not.
[00:44:16] Speaker B: No. Yeah, no, I didn't even cross my mind. But you're right, it should have, it should have been like, wait a second here, you know? But again, I was too busy thinking about how funny it was that this guy died three seconds before, after he got threatened to be shot.
[00:44:27] Speaker A: You know, Crusher were like, yeah, go ahead, shoot him. Like, they didn't, they didn't protest at all. He was just like, jameson, I'm going to kill you now. And they're all just like, that's all right. Well, I guess he's going to kill, they're going to let him kill him.
[00:44:39] Speaker B: And I'm trying to think of, you know, this episode seemed, I'm trying to think of anything else I've seen before yet. Obviously, we met Data's brother, but that wasn't, There was still more involvement with the other. I mean, not, not that the regular players weren't involved here, but this, this was mostly about, you know, two guys that we didn't really know before, you know what I'm saying? Which, I don't know if that's happened yet on the show. You know, great question.
[00:45:03] Speaker A: Has it happened yet?
Not with the whole crew not being involved. Right. Like, yeah, like, you know, when, when the Traveler and Kaczynski came on board and they vaulted the ship to another galaxy. Like, they were certainly, they took center stage there, but Wesley was the focus of that episode.
[00:45:18] Speaker B: You're right, right.
[00:45:19] Speaker A: You know, him having the special ability, whatever. So, yeah, I'd have to Give it some thought, but that's a great question. I'm not sure if there's been an episode like that yet, and Trek has a lot of that. Like, sometimes they let the guest stars shine and they just kind of let them do their thing. It's interesting. Speaking of guest stars shining too, I wanted to point out, when I mentioned he did a great job. His performance in this episode, when he was. The last speech he gave to Carnass, when he was just like, shaking and crazy sweaty and he was just like, clearly dying, I thought that was a phenomenal job. I thought he did really, really.
You know, at first glance, it seems over the top, but I think it worked dramatically. I think it really worked well.
[00:45:54] Speaker B: No, it's funny because I was going to say, because we had mentioned this about Carnus earlier, I felt like it was in these kind of moments, this last scene or this last sequence or whatever it was, where I kind of felt like he was a little over the top. You know, maybe his reaction to, like you said, like you were talking, the discovery of trying to figure out who this guy was or if he's on a level about, you know, what he's saying.

[00:46:16] Speaker A: like, you talk about Carnass. The actor played Carnass. Okay, yeah. Okay, yeah, I'm with you. I'm with you.
[00:46:20] Speaker B: I felt, I felt like his reaction was a little, somewhat, a little over the top where the other guy, I, I didn't really get that sense with the other guy. I felt like he was very grounded in the way he, he delivered his whole thing there.
[00:46:29] Speaker A: I'm with you. I'm with you. And, and you know, better than me, obviously, but I, I, I, like I said, at first glance, I thought so, but then, like, when you think about, I think it was just a, just a good perform. I think he committed pretty well to the, to the performance. And I do like the, It's a little cheesy, a little out of place, but I like the, I like the idea of going for it. Well, Carass's last line. I think he was something like, I don't know. Rest in peace, Jameson. Your long night and mine are finally over. You know, I mean, like, I kind of like that it, you know, it wasn't really earned. But I like, I like the, I like the shot, I like the swing. I like.
[00:47:08] Speaker B: The attempt would have been great too if, like, Riker just started making out with the wife at that point, like, well, he's gone now, so be my,
[00:47:16] Speaker A: be Mrs. Jameson directly my quarters. Please remove her clothing.

Yeah, right. Because everyone's. Everyone's involved. Was Troy in this episode?

[00:48:33] Speaker B: She was involved a lot more in the beginning, I feel like when they were trying to decipher, she was like, oh, you know, whether or not the guy or what his friend number. What she was trying to figure out.
[00:48:41] Speaker A: What did you think of the scene with Troy, now that I think about it, with Troy, Crusher and Annie in sick bay, where she was just trying to make sense of what Jameson had done, and she was just kind of like, you know, but, you know, he's. Now. He's a young man. Look at me. What am I going to do? Like, you know, I was looking forward to retirement. I thought that was a cool scene. Even if it was like, unfortunately, let's give the women something to do. Like, I. I think I like the idea of doing that scene. I think it makes her character a little more rounded, too. You know what I mean? Annie, that is.

[00:49:14] Speaker B: Well, I was going to say, I. I think it's.
To me, it was. It was.
You kind of got the interesting opposite view of the coin there, where it was like, you know, not. I. You know, this guy. Not Only did he find this thing that who knows what it's going to do to him, but at least, you know, he gets a chance to be young for a little while. But he took that away from her and their life together in a lot of way. Like, it was kind of like her dealing with the blow of that. And also it's like, you know, in her mind she's like, yeah, you know, you know, again, you could say you're doing it for the mission, but you know, at the end of the day now you're going to be young and I'm, you're not, you don't, you're not going to want to hang around with me right now. You know what I mean?
[00:49:49] Speaker A: Yeah. 50 years ago, you didn't even think about it.
[00:49:52] Speaker B: Felt sorry for her there. Yeah, definitely. I, I thought it was very, to be honest, now that you mentioned it, like I said, I didn't even have it in my notes, but I definitely did think about that scene from the, from that standpoint. I mean, I guess I kind of refer to it from the standpoint of the way he, he, the fact that he took both of those things and how unfair it was to her. But, but she, I'm glad they gave us that moment there with them because, you know, a lot of shows wouldn't really probably even do that. You know, like, they kind of gave you that because, I mean, again, she mentions her frustration to him at one point in the, in the room there when they had their, their conversation. But, but you don't get that, that, you know, let me go bullshit my, with other people about this. Like, am I, you know, something, because sometimes we all do this where I'm like, am I being crazy here? Let me bounce this off someone else. Or I don't know, like, you know, like, in other words, was she being selfish? You know, I'm not. I thought it was cool that they had that scene in there.
[00:50:40] Speaker A: Yeah, me too. Now that I think about it. I, at first I dismissed it, like I said, as sort of like a, oh, you know, this is the women sort of talking, you know, but I mean, counselor. Troy's a counselor, you know what I mean? And Crushers, you know, like, they're both trying to help her health, wise, mental health and physical health. So, you know, maybe I was a little too judgy there, but, and you know what, and let's give some props, like, I thought that actress was, was really, like, she was lovely. Like, she was, she was kind of good. Like, I, I, I like the way she Played it, you know, she was very gentle, very, you know, innocent, but still sort of like forceful. Like, I like the way she played that. That role. What'd you think of her?
[00:51:18] Speaker B: No, I thought she was good. And it's funny. Like, in fact, I. Again, I felt sorry for her. Where I could have seen in the ending there, where I could have seen her going, you know what? I'm. I'm with Carnist now. And maybe they start making out and they say, you, Jane.
[00:51:29] Speaker A: You know what I mean?
[00:51:29] Speaker B: Like, I can see her because she. I. I do think that it was interesting that it's like.
Because it's almost like he betrayed her, like, in three different ways. Like, he. First of all, he lied to her about. It was funny because that was what I was gonna say before.
It's almost like a payoff of him when I said he kind of did this eye shift early on in the episode to kind of hint. To hint that he was not, you know, up to. Up to something.
It wasn't just that he had taken the youth serum, but the fact also the fact that he took it from his wife. Like, he, you know, I think so he lied to her about the fact that, you know, he didn't really. I'm sure trying to say, yeah, he was.
[00:52:09] Speaker A: Instead, he. He got both of them. But then he just decided to take it on himself. Now he was going to get more for. For her, but.
[00:52:17] Speaker B: Right.
[00:52:17] Speaker A: You know, he didn't think about her is what you're saying, I think.
[00:52:20] Speaker B: Yeah. And also, I think it was. It was almost like he. He also robbed them of whatever time they had left together as older people. Because you, you don't know what this drug is going to do to you, you know?
[00:52:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:52:35] Speaker B: And now you, You, You. You screwed up the fact that, you know, now you're young and you're old and like, what. What the hell? How could we. You know, this is kind of, you know, I mean, not, not like, you know, I mean, as, you know, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, some of these guys are doing this now. It's not like he's getting. Can't be done, but I mean, you
[00:52:49] Speaker A: know, but then you're right. But then he offers up his life for the hostages. Again, not thinking about her at all. He's like, you know. Yeah. I mean, surely Car is gonna kill him. So, like. Yeah, so he's like. He's not. He's. He's not a good husband is what we're saying, kind of. At least not right now.
[00:53:05] Speaker B: Yeah, he kind of Put that. Well, I mean, it's a tough thing. It's like one of those things where, you know, I'm trying to think of other examples of this in some of these shows and movies.
[00:53:14] Speaker A: No, totally. Like, so it's like being a cop's wife. You see a cop's wife all the time on these, you know, shows and, and they're rightfully just up all night and scared and blah, blah, blah. But like, again, you married a cop. Like, you know, you married a Starfleet military person. You know, this is part of the job now. He shouldn't just willy nilly, you know, offer up his life without thinking of her at all. But I know what you're saying. It's. It's a trope. But usually, to be honest, I find that sort of writing annoying. I didn't find her annoying at all.
[00:53:43] Speaker B: No, I. Like I said, I thought she did a.
I think she did a great job and she was very sweet. They gave her a great. There were really good scenes with her. Like we said, she wasn't, to me, annoying. She did. You know, the scene with him was real. The scene with him, her talking to the, the women was real. Like, it was, it was cool. It wasn't over. They didn't hit you over the head

[00:54:02] Speaker B: I mean, I think we're hitting it over the head on the podcast here, but I think that they did a good job there.

[00:54:50] Speaker A: And then you gave Haven the one where Counselor Troy was arranged marriage with her mother and the dinner scene and all that. Yeah. And you know Teabag from. From Prison break? That was 6.2.
Okay. Oh, no, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. In angel one, angel one was 6.0 as well. So that's the fourth worst, which actually isn't terrible.
[00:55:13] Speaker B: And I don't Think. And again, I didn't find this to be that. That bad. Like, I, I mean, it was fun. It was definitely, you know, again, I just, for me, I was more like, I do wish that more of the main people were more center stage here. But you know what, it was fun to kind of get away from that a little bit too. So it wasn't. To me, it wasn't the worst episode by far.
[00:55:31] Speaker A: I'll tell you what, I'm gonna stop hinting at what I think the next episode will bring. I'm gonna stop telling you, you know, you got a rough one next. I'm just gonna let you. I'm let you feel it out. That's what I should have done from the beginning. So my bad there. But yeah, I want your fresh, honest opinion. So I'm gonna. So for example, folks, the next episode is when the bow breaks.
So that is the next episode and I am going to leave it. I'm gonna let Bomber watch it and, and I'll. I'll hear what he has to say about it. I will say this, there's some cool guest actors in this that you'll recognize from other things in this next one for sure. Especially the lead female guest actor.

No, she's fun. And then the other than the main, the male lead actor, he is. He's a real Star Trek guy. So he's. He pops up again in multiple Treks episode episodes and he's.

[00:56:48] Speaker A: It could be. And you know, back to the rating real quick. I do consider the way I read IMDb and it pretty much falls in line with how I rate these things.
Any episode of Television six or higher I think is at least, at the absolute least worth watching once, I think so anything below that, I think you could be like, all right, maybe I'll just skip that. You know, I mean, if I see a movie.
[00:57:14] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:57:14] Speaker A: A non horror movie that's rated below 6, I don't even bother, like, I'm
[00:57:18] Speaker B: not gonna watch that.
[00:57:19] Speaker A: Horror movies are different. Horror Movies, you never know the genre.
Genres get a little dicey as far as, like, taking the cue from the general ratings. My point is, like, any horror movie that's like a seven is like, oh, my God, that must be great.
Whereas, you know, the Godfather's not gonna be a seven, it's gonna be a nine. So take that with a grain of salt. IMDb. I like their ratings. I'm gonna keep using them. But yeah, anything over six, I think it's worth watching. And technically you've had every episode out of six, which I think is of. Kind, Kind of shocking, but yeah, no, yeah, you find them interesting at least. I mean, they're not boring at least, apparently. Yeah.
[00:57:56] Speaker B: Because it's again, this first time through, so it's, you know, I kind of think in order to stay along with everything, it's, they're all kind of worth watching if you want to watch, if you're looking to watch the whole series. Yeah, I mean, you know, what are we doing here?
[00:58:07] Speaker A: And again, like, I mean, I, I, this, this is the season that got me into Star Trek, so, you know, I can't, you know, I can't shit on it that much.
I just know that there's so many better things coming.
